Great Plains Zoo

Zoo · Sioux Falls, South Dakota

A forty-five-acre zoo in Sioux Falls, opened in 1963, holding around a thousand animals with a strong showing of African species and a well-regarded children's section. It is the largest zoo in South Dakota and the only substantial one east of the Black Hills, which makes it the family standby for the whole eastern half of the state. The associated Delbridge Museum of Natural History has closed.

805 South Kiwanis Avenue, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, 57104, United States

Open daily, generally 9 AM to 5 PM with longer summer hours and reduced winter hours; closed Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year's Day. Ticketed. ⚠ SOME OUTDOOR HABITATS CLOSE OR THE ANIMALS GO INSIDE IN COLD WEATHER, so a January visit sees markedly less than a July one - which is true of any northern-plains zoo and worth planning around.
