Great River Road in Wisconsin

All American Road · Prescott, Wisconsin

Two hundred and fifty miles of Mississippi River shoreline from Prescott in the north to Kieler at the Iowa and Illinois corner, through eight counties and thirty-three river towns beneath the bluffs of the Driftless Area — country the last glaciation went around rather than over. Wisconsin's segment of the ten-state Great River Road was raised to ALL-AMERICAN ROAD status in 2021, the Federal Highway Administration's top byway tier and the only one in the state. It is marked throughout by a green-and-white steamboat pilot's wheel, in use since the late 1950s.
