Greektown, Detroit

Heritage District · Detroit, Michigan

A single dense block of Monroe Street downtown, settled by Greek immigrants from the 1880s and still lined with tavernas, bakeries and a casino. It is one of very few Detroit commercial districts that stayed continuously occupied through the city's worst decades, which is why the nineteenth-century storefronts are still there.
