Grosse Point Lighthouse
Lighthouse · Evanston, Illinois
A 113-foot lighthouse built in Evanston in 1873 after the Lady Elgin sank off this shore with the loss of some three hundred lives, and the tallest light on the Great Lakes when it went up. Its original second-order Fresnel lens is still in the tower, which is rare — most were removed and scattered decades ago.
2601 Sheridan Road, Evanston, Illinois, 60201, United States
Grounds and park free and open year-round. Tower tours seasonal, generally summer weekend afternoons, with a minimum height requirement.
