Grover Cleveland Birthplace
National Register Of Historic Places · Caldwell, New Jersey
A small clapboard Presbyterian manse in Caldwell where STEPHEN GROVER CLEVELAND WAS BORN IN 1837 — THE ONLY PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES BORN IN NEW JERSEY, and the only one ever elected to two non-consecutive terms, which made him both the twenty-second and the twenty-fourth president. His father was the minister and the family left when he was four, so the house is a birthplace rather than a home. It is a New Jersey state historic site, it is free or nearly so, IT KEEPS VERY LIMITED HOURS, and it holds his cradle.
207 Bloomfield Avenue, Caldwell, New Jersey, 07006, United States
FREE or a nominal donation, with free parking on site — a New Jersey state historic site. THE HOURS ARE VERY LIMITED: a few days a week in a short window, historically Wednesday to Sunday afternoons or fewer, with state holiday and occasional staffing closures on top, AND IT HAS CLOSED FOR EXTENDED PERIODS IN THE PAST. RING OR CHECK THE DAY YOU TRAVEL. Shown by a site interpreter in about 45 minutes with no self-guided option and no audio guide. Groups ring ahead. The Cleveland birthday commemoration falls in March. Note that this is a BIRTHPLACE rather than a home — the family left when Cleveland was four.
