Guernsey State Park
State Park; Civilian Conservation Corps Structures Are A National Historic Landmark District · Guernsey, Wyoming
A reservoir park in the bluffs above the North Platte River north of Guernsey, best known for the stone shelters, roads and trails built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s, which form a National Historic Landmark district. The Castle picnic shelter and the Brimmer Point overlook sit on the cliffs, a CCC museum opens in summer, and the lake draws boaters and campers. Each summer the reservoir is drawn down sharply for irrigation downstream, which can leave beaches and ramps high and dry. Each July the reservoir level drops sharply during the silt run, when water is released to carry sediment into irrigation canals downstream. The CCC buildings, roads and trails are the reason to come, and Brimmer Point and Skyline Drive give the best views over the North Platte valley.
