Guilford Courthouse National Military Park

Battlefield · Greensboro, North Carolina

The battlefield where Nathanael Greene met Cornwallis on 15 March 1781 and lost - and won the campaign anyway. The British took the field and paid for it with about a quarter of their army, casualties they could not replace, and marched away to Wilmington and then Virginia and then Yorktown, where they surrendered seven months later. It was the first military park established to commemorate a Revolutionary War battle, and it is now a green wedge inside suburban Greensboro.
