Hall of Fame for Great Americans

Memorial · Bronx, New York

⚠ THE FIRST HALL OF FAME IN THE UNITED STATES, opened 1900 — a 630-foot open-air granite COLONNADE by STANFORD WHITE on a bluff above the Harlem River, holding ninety-eight bronze busts of Americans elected to it between 1900 and 1976. ⚠ IT IS ON THE CAMPUS OF BRONX COMMUNITY COLLEGE, IT IS FREE, AND ALMOST NOBODY GOES.

2155 University Avenue, Bronx, New York, 10453, United States

⚠ FREE — there is no charge to visit the colonnade. ⚠⚠ BUT IT STANDS ON THE WORKING CAMPUS OF BRONX COMMUNITY COLLEGE and access is subject to the college's arrangements — PHOTO ID MAY BE REQUIRED at the gate and conditions have changed over the years. ⚠ CHECK BEFORE TRAVELLING; this is the main practical risk. Generally accessible during campus hours on weekdays. ⚠ GOULD MEMORIAL LIBRARY'S INTERIOR IS RARELY OPEN and its condition is a long-standing preservation concern; the exterior is always visible. ⚠ It is the FIRST HALL OF FAME IN THE UNITED STATES, opened 1900, and elections stopped in 1976.
