Hāna Highway
Scenic Highway · Hana, Hawaii
Sixty-four miles of Hawaii Routes 36 and 360 connecting Kahului to Hana on the east side of Maui. Hana is only about fifty-two miles away, but an uninterrupted drive takes about two and a half hours: the road is narrow and winding, it passes over fifty-nine bridges of which forty-six are single-lane, and there are roughly six hundred and twenty curves on Route 360 alone, almost all of it through tropical rainforest. Many of the concrete and steel bridges date from around 1910 and all but one are still in use.
