Hanging Rock State Park
Subnational Park · Danbury, North Carolina
Nine thousand acres of the Sauratown Mountains - an isolated quartzite range standing alone between the Blue Ridge and the Piedmont, which is why the views from it run so far. The park is built around a set of hard rock outcrops and five waterfalls, with a swimming lake, a campground and rental cabins built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s. It is thirty miles north of Winston-Salem and it is free.
1790 Hanging Rock Park Road, Danbury, North Carolina, 27016, United States
FREE and open daily, with monthly hours running roughly 7 AM to 6 PM in winter and to 9 PM in midsummer. Closed Christmas Day. The swimming lake and bathhouse are SEASONAL, generally Memorial Day to Labor Day. The campground and vacation cabins are reservable; cabins in particular book far ahead.
