Harry S Truman National Historic Site

Historic House · Independence, Missouri

The house at 219 North Delaware Street where Harry and Bess Truman lived from their marriage in 1919 until their deaths, including the whole of his retirement - he walked into Independence from it most mornings. It is preserved with the family's own furniture and possessions rather than restored to a period, which is what makes it unusual among presidential houses. The site also holds the Truman Farm Home in Grandview and several related properties, and tickets are issued only from the visitor centre on Main Street.

223 North Main Street, Independence, Missouri, 64050, United States

ACCESS TO THE TRUMAN HOME IS BY TIMED TICKET FROM THE VISITOR CENTRE ONLY, and tickets are issued the same day on a first-come basis - they run out on summer afternoons. The visitor centre on Main Street generally opens 8:30 AM to 5 PM; the house is shown on tours through the day. The site is often CLOSED ON SOME WEEKDAYS OUTSIDE SUMMER and the Truman Farm Home in Grandview keeps a much more limited seasonal schedule. Check nps.gov/hstr before travelling.
