Harry S. Truman Presidential Library and Museum
History Museum · Independence, Missouri
The first presidential library built under the 1955 Presidential Libraries Act, dedicated on 6 July 1957 on land Independence gave for it, and the place where Harry Truman worked most days of his retirement in an office visitors can now see. He is buried in the courtyard with Bess, who was laid beside him in 1982. A full reinstallation completed in 2021 rebuilt the museum around the decisions - the atomic bomb, the Marshall Plan, NATO, recognising Israel, desegregating the armed forces, and firing MacArthur.
