Hattiesburg Zoo
Zoo · Hattiesburg, Mississippi
A small zoo inside Kamper Park in Hattiesburg, about twelve acres, accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, and by a clear margin the best-run zoo in Mississippi. It does not pretend to compete with the big regional collections — there are no elephants and no big cats to speak of — and instead does a small number of things carefully: giraffe feeding, a sloth encounter, a train that circles the park, and a carousel. For families with children under about ten it is the most reliable afternoon in south Mississippi.
