A Sepaq National Park With A River Valley Carved 800 M Deep Into The Laurentian Plateau, A Rare Gorge In Eastern Canada With Cliffs, River Cruises, Hiking And Camping. The Cliffs Rise Above The Malbaie River, And The Park Lies In The Charlevoix Biosphere Reserve · Saint-Aime-des-Lacs, Quebec
Hautes-Gorges-de-la-Riviere-Malbaie National Park is a Sepaq park in the Charlevoix highlands of Quebec, about 150 km north-east of Quebec City and reached by road from Saint-Aime-des-Lacs, a drive of some kilometres on a winding route into the plateau (confirm length). The Malbaie River has cut a gorge roughly 800 m deep into the Laurentian plateau, among the deepest river valleys in eastern Canada, with forested cliffs rising on both sides of a slow green stretch of water. The park is the quiet, wild part of the Charlevoix biosphere reserve. Visitors come to hike the cliff trails, take a river cruise between the walls, paddle, fish and camp. Cliffs and water together make the scene. The park is seasonal and remote, with limited cell coverage, so plan food, fuel and bookings in advance. A day-use fee and a separate cruise fare apply (confirm both), and the best months are July to early October.

The park runs a main season from about late May to mid October, with the best services from late June to early September, when the reception, cruise boat, campground and canteen are open. In shoulder weeks the road and trails may stay open with fewer services, and winter use is limited to guided or ski trips depending on snow and road clearing (confirm). Reception hours are usually daytime, and cruise departure times vary by season, so book ahead through Sepaq. Cell coverage is poor inside the valley, and the road from Saint-Aime-des-Lacs is long, so allow extra time before closing.
