Havasu Falls
Havasupai Indian Reservation — Tribal Permit Required · Supai, Arizona
Turquoise waterfalls in Havasu Canyon, a side canyon of the Grand Canyon on the reservation of the Havasupai Tribe, whose name means people of the blue-green water. Havasu Falls drops about a hundred feet into travertine pools; Mooney Falls, taller, is reached by chains and ladders through tunnels in the cliff; Navajo and Beaver falls lie nearby. There is no road: visitors hike about ten miles each way from Hualapai Hilltop, through the village of Supai, and every visitor needs a multi-night permit bought months ahead from the Tribe. Day hikes are not allowed, and permits usually sell out on the day they are released.
