Hawks Nest State Park

Subnational Park · Ansted, West Virginia

A rim overlook 750 feet above the New River at Ansted, with a lodge built onto the edge of it and an aerial tramway down to a marina on the water. It is also where the Hawks Nest Tunnel was driven through the mountain in 1930, in a construction disaster that killed hundreds of workers from acute silicosis and is generally reckoned the worst industrial accident in American history.

US Route 60, Ansted, West Virginia, 25812, United States

Park and overlook open daily, dawn to dusk, year round, free. The aerial tram and the jetboat trips are SEASONAL, generally late spring through autumn, and do not run in high wind. Lodge and restaurant operate year round.
