Heineken Experience

Self Guided Brand Experience In Heineken'S Former Amsterdam Brewery (Brewing Here Ended In 1988), With Tastings And A Rooftop Bar · Amsterdam, North Holland

The Heineken Experience is a self-guided tour through Heineken's former brewery on the Stadhouderskade in Amsterdam, at the edge of the De Pijp district. Beer was brewed on this site from 1867, when the young Gerard Adriaan Heineken expanded the business he had bought in 1864, until 1988, when production moved to larger plants; the building opened as a visitor attraction in 2001. Inside you walk past the old copper brewing kettles, learn how lager is made, meet the brand's history and advertising, ride an interactive show, and finish at a bar with tastings, with some tickets adding a rooftop bar over the city. It is popular with groups, couples and beer fans on a rainy day, and it is lively and well staged. The honest caveat: it is a marketing experience, not a working brewery, and much of the route is about the brand. Beer lovers who want craft brewing should also visit a real Amsterdam brewery. Tickets cost a lot for what is about 90 minutes.
