Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center

The Pfeiffer Family Home In Piggott, Arkansas, And The Converted Barn Studio Where Ernest Hemingway Worked On Parts Of A Farewell To Arms. Listed On The National Register And Operated By Arkansas State University. · Piggott, Arkansas

Pauline Pfeiffer, Hemingway's second wife, came from Piggott in the north-east corner of Arkansas, and her family's house and the barn behind it are now a museum run by Arkansas State University. The barn's hayloft was converted into a writing studio, and Hemingway worked there on parts of A Farewell to Arms during visits in the late 1920s and early 1930s. The house is restored to that period, and the collection covers the Pfeiffers - who were wealthy, well travelled and central to this small farming town - as much as the writer who married into them. It sits on the Crowley's Ridge Parkway, which is the sensible way to reach it.
