Heritage Park Historical Village
One Of Canada'S Largest Living History Museums, With Heritage Buildings Gathered From Across The Prairies And Foothills, A Steam Railway, A Sternwheeler On The Reservoir And An Old Midway. Open Daily In Summer And Weekends In Shoulder Seasons (Confirm). A Full Day, Mostly Outdoors. · Calgary, Alberta
Heritage Park is one of Canada's largest living-history museums, on the shore of the Glenmore Reservoir in south-west Calgary. It gathers buildings from the 1860s to the 1920s that were moved or rebuilt from across the prairies and foothills, and links them with a steam train, a sternwheeler on the reservoir and an old-style midway. The site is large, mostly outdoors and built for a full day of walking, so it suits families, rail and history fans and anyone who likes to see how a settler town worked. It is seasonal, with daily summer opening and a shorter shoulder schedule (confirm). The midway rides cost extra. Wear comfortable shoes, bring a hat, and expect school groups in early summer. Crowds can be heavy on warm weekends. It is a different thing from the Calgary Stampede, which is a separate row. Allow five to seven hours. Go in the morning, and take the train first to get your bearings.

Heritage Park is seasonal. It generally opens daily in summer and on weekends only in the shoulder months, with a closed winter period apart from occasional special events, but dates and hours change by year, so confirm the current calendar before you drive. Typical days run from mid-morning to late afternoon, with the last train and the last boat departing earlier than the gate closing. The steam train, the S.S. Moyie sternwheeler and the midway rides may run on different schedules or be paused for maintenance or weather, so ask at the gate which ones are operating that day. Food outlets and shops keep park hours and may close early in cooler months.
