Hickory Run State Park

State Park — National Natural Landmark · White Haven, Pennsylvania

Fifteen thousand acres at the southern edge of the Poconos, holding the Boulder Field — a level expanse of red sandstone boulders roughly four hundred feet wide and eighteen hundred long, with no soil and almost no vegetation, left by freeze-thaw action at the edge of the last glaciation and essentially unchanged for twenty thousand years. It is a National Natural Landmark and it looks like nothing else in the eastern United States. The rest of the park is ordinary good Pocono woodland, which makes the contrast sharper.

3613 State Route 534, White Haven, Pennsylvania, 18661, United States

Park open year round, generally sunrise to sunset, free. THE BOULDER FIELD ACCESS ROAD IS SEASONAL and is closed through winter and in poor conditions, leaving a long walk in. The park office keeps daytime hours. The Sand Spring Lake beach is guarded in summer only.
