A Round Roman Tower Of The 1st Or 2nd Century On A Cliff Edge, Surrounded By A Park Of Pines And Rose Beds Above The Mediterranean, With Views Of The Taurus Mountains And The Sea. A Free Sunset Spot A Short Walk From The Old Town · Muratpasa, Antalya
Hidirlik Tower is a round Roman tower of stone, about 14 m high (confirm), that stands on the cliff edge at the south-west corner of Karaalioglu Park, just above the old harbour of Antalya and a short walk from the Kaleici district of old Ottoman houses. It is usually dated to the 1st or 2nd century AD and is most often explained as a tomb tower on a square base, though some writers suggest it also served as a lighthouse or watchtower for ships entering the harbour (confirm). The park around it is a long strip of lawns, pines and rose beds on the cliff top, with benches, tea gardens and a series of railings above the Mediterranean. From the edge you see the Gulf of Antalya, the pale cliffs, the harbour and the snow on the Taurus Mountains in cooler months. The park is free and open all day, and it is the favourite place in town to watch the sun go down. A visit usually takes one to two hours, longer if you stay for the sunset and an evening meal in the old town.

The park is normally open all day and into the night with no gate fee, and the tower can be viewed from outside at any time, though its interior is usually closed or locked (confirm). Tea gardens and cafes in and beside the park follow market hours, roughly 08:00 to midnight in summer and earlier in winter. Municipal cleaning, events or repairs sometimes close a section of path or lawn for a few days. Sunset, around 20:30 in midsummer and 17:00 in midwinter, is the busiest time, and the paths are dim after dark, so a phone torch helps late in the evening.
