Hill Cumorah
Pilgrimage · Palmyra, New York
A drumlin in Manchester, New York, where Joseph Smith said the angel Moroni showed him the gold plates from which he translated the Book of Mormon. It is one of the founding sites of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, marked since 1935 by a monument with a gilded statue of Moroni, and it sits within a cluster of early church sites around Palmyra including the SACRED GROVE, four miles north, where Smith described his First Vision.
