Hillsborough River State Park
Florida State Park · Thonotosassa, Florida
One of Florida's four original state parks, opened in 1938 and built by the Civilian Conservation Corps, on a stretch of the Hillsborough River that does something no other Florida river does — it runs over a limestone outcrop and forms actual rapids. A suspension bridge crosses above them, and Fort Foster, a reconstructed 1837 Second Seminole War fort, stands within the park.
15402 US Highway 301 North, Thonotosassa, Florida, 33592, United States
Open 8:00 a.m. until sundown, 365 days a year. Fort Foster is open weekends only by guided tour. The pool is seasonal.
