Historic Arkansas Museum

A State Museum Occupying A City Block Of Restored Pre Civil War Buildings In Downtown Little Rock, Including The Hinderliter Grog Shop Of About 1827, The Oldest Standing Building In The City, On Its Original Site. · Little Rock, Arkansas

Historic Arkansas Museum is a block of downtown Little Rock that never got knocked down: half a dozen houses and workshops from the 1820s to the 1850s, standing on their own ground rather than moved in, with the Hinderliter Grog Shop of about 1827 the oldest building in the city. Costumed interpreters work the houses on scheduled days. The modern galleries behind hold Arkansas-made art and craft, and the state's largest collection of Arkansas-made Bowie knives, which is a bigger subject here than it sounds given where the knife was forged. The grounds are free; there is a small charge for the historic houses.

200 East Third Street, Little Rock, Arkansas, 72201, United States

Open most days on daytime hours, generally closed Sundays and on major holidays. The galleries and grounds are free; the historic houses carry a small admission and are seen with an interpreter on a scheduled basis rather than continuously. Costumed interpretation runs on set days. Confirm the day's house-tour schedule before travelling.
