Historic Cold Spring Village

Historic District · Cape May, New Jersey

A thirty-acre open-air living history village outside Cape May, assembled from about twenty-seven early nineteenth-century South Jersey buildings that were moved here from across the region rather than built as replicas. Interpreters in period dress work the trades — the blacksmith, the printer, the weaver, the broom maker — and the whole thing represents a rural South Jersey farm village around 1850. THE CRITICAL PRACTICAL FACT IS THE SEASON: it is open for a short summer window and a handful of event weekends, and it is shut for most of the year, which catches out a great many visitors.

720 Route 9, Cape May, New Jersey, 08204, United States

A SHORT SEASON, AND THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT FACT: Historic Cold Spring Village opens broadly LATE JUNE TO EARLY SEPTEMBER plus a limited number of spring and autumn EVENT WEEKENDS, and is otherwise CLOSED — and it does not open every day even within the season. CHECK THE CALENDAR BEFORE TRAVELLING; visitors arrive in May and October to a locked gate constantly, and the event weekends are sometimes the only days open outside high summer. Modest admission with reductions; no booking needed for general entry, and special events are separately ticketed. HOW MANY BUILDINGS ARE STAFFED VARIES BY DAY — ask at the gate which trades are working. Free parking.
