Historic Deerfield
National Historic Landmark District · Deerfield, Massachusetts
A mile of eighteenth-century street in the Connecticut River valley, with around a dozen original houses open as museums and the rest still lived in — and every one of them standing where it was built, which is the difference between this and the villages assembled from buildings moved in from elsewhere. In February 1704 a French and Native force attacked the settlement here, killed around fifty people and marched more than a hundred captives three hundred miles to Canada in winter.
84B Old Main Street, Deerfield, Massachusetts, 01342, United States
Open daytime hours with strongly seasonal opening — most houses open late spring to October, much reduced in winter. NOT EVERY HOUSE IS OPEN EVERY DAY; collect the day's rota at the Hall Tavern visitor centre. One admission covers all open houses and the Flynt Center and is commonly valid for a second consecutive day. FREE parking. Old Main Street itself is a public road and free to walk.
