Historic Richmond Town

Open Air Museum · Staten Island, New York

⚠ A 100-ACRE VILLAGE OF THIRTY HISTORIC BUILDINGS IN THE MIDDLE OF STATEN ISLAND — New York City's only living-history town, holding ⚠ THE VOORLEZER'S HOUSE OF ABOUT 1695, WHICH IS THE OLDEST SURVIVING SCHOOLHOUSE IN THE UNITED STATES. Some buildings stand where they were built; others were moved here to save them.

441 Clarke Avenue, Staten Island, New York, 10306, United States

⚠⚠ RING BEFORE YOU TRAVEL AND ASK HOW MANY BUILDINGS WILL BE OPEN AND STAFFED. This matters more than anything else here: the number of interpreted buildings varies enormously by season and day, and ON A QUIET WINTER WEEKDAY YOU ARE WALKING A HUNDRED ACRES PAST LOCKED DOORS. ⚠ COME FOR AN EVENING EVENT IF YOU CAN — TAVERN NIGHTS AND THE SEASONAL EVENING PROGRAMMES are separately ticketed, book up, and are the best thing the site does. ⚠ THE CHRISTMAS PROGRAMME IS SUBSTANTIAL AND BOOKS EARLY. ⚠ THE VOORLEZER'S HOUSE, built about 1695, is the OLDEST SURVIVING SCHOOLHOUSE IN THE UNITED STATES and stands on its original site. ⚠ Free parking; the Staten Island Ferry is free but allow proper time for the bus south. ⚠ HOURS AND PRICES NOT VERIFIED.
