Historic St. Luke's Church

Church · Smithfield, Virginia

A small brick church outside Smithfield, built around 1682 and the oldest surviving church of English foundation in North America — and the only original Gothic church left in the country, with buttresses, lancet windows and a stepped gable that belong to a style England had already abandoned when it was built. It holds a chamber organ of about 1630, among the oldest intact English organs in the western hemisphere.
