The Marble Mausoleum Of Ho Chi Minh, Opened In 1975, Where His Preserved Body Lies In A Glass Case Under Honour Guard. Beside It Are The Former Presidential Palace, The Simple Stilt House Where He Lived And The Ho Chi Minh Museum. The Most Important National Pilgrimage In Vietnam, With Strict Dress And Behaviour Rules And An Annual Maintenance Closure · Hanoi, Hanoi

The Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum Complex stands around Ba Dinh Square in Hanoi, where Ho Chi Minh read the declaration of independence in 1945. The marble mausoleum, opened in 1975, holds his preserved body in a glass case under honour guard, and it is the most important national pilgrimage in Vietnam. The visit is strict and short. You queue in lines, dress modestly, stay silent, keep your hands out of your pockets, and leave bags and cameras at the entrance, with guards watching closely. Inside you walk past the body in a few minutes. The rest of the complex is easier and more varied: the yellow former Presidential Palace, the simple stilt house where he chose to live, a garden pond with carp, the One Pillar Pagoda, and the Ho Chi Minh Museum, which is large and somewhat dated. The mausoleum closes for about two months each year for body maintenance, and it is open mornings only and closed Mondays and Fridays.
