Hoʻokipa Beach Park
Beach · Kuau, Hawaii
A beach on the north shore of Maui renowned as one of the best windsurfing sites in the world, where large well-shaped waves break across a system of reefs running out across the bay and the wind blows hard and consistently. Waves are largest in winter and smaller in summer, and surfing contests run here alongside the windsurfing. For most visitors it is a spectator beach with a clifftop car park, and in the late afternoon it is where the green turtles come ashore.
Hana Highway, Kuau, Hawaii, 96779, United States
Open at all times and FREE, with free parking and a clifftop overlook above the bay. ⚠ THE WATER HERE IS FOR EXPERTS AND THE BEACH IS FOR WATCHING - this is a world-class wave over a reef system, not a swimming beach, and that is true in every season. Lifeguards work posted daylight hours. ⚠ GREEN SEA TURTLES HAUL OUT ON THE SAND IN THE LATE AFTERNOON and the area is roped off when they do.
