Hockey Hall of Fame
The Sport'S Principal Museum And Hall Of Honour, Housed Partly In A Beaux Arts 1885 Bank Of Montreal Banking Hall, And Home Of The Original Stanley Cup · Toronto, Ontario
The Hockey Hall of Fame sits under Brookfield Place in the financial district, and the best part of it is the room it borrowed: the GREAT HALL OCCUPIES THE 1885 BANK OF MONTREAL BANKING HALL, a Beaux-Arts chamber with a stained-glass dome, and the honoured members' plaques line the walls beneath it. THE STANLEY CUP IS KEPT HERE when it is not being handed to someone - not a replica, the actual trophy, in a room where you can stand next to it and touch it, which is not a thing most sporting museums allow. Around it is a great deal of hockey: the original Cup bowl from 1892, goalie masks going back to Jacques Plante, Gretzky material, the evolution of the equipment, and a set of interactive shooting and goaltending games that children will not leave. It was founded in 1943 and moved here in 1993. It is smaller than people expect and better than they expect, and the Great Hall is the reason.
30 Yonge Street, Brookfield Place, Toronto, Toronto, Ontario, Canada
OPEN DAILY WITH SEASONAL HOURS - longer in summer and over the winter holidays, shorter in the quieter months, and REDUCED OR CLOSED ON A FEW MAJOR HOLIDAYS. ADULT ADMISSION HAS RUN ROUGHLY CAD 23-30 with children and seniors cheaper; tickets can be bought at the door or online. THE STANLEY CUP IS NORMALLY ON DISPLAY IN THE GREAT HALL BUT IT TRAVELS - it leaves for presentations, players' days and events, and when it is away a replica stands in its place. IF SEEING THE ACTUAL CUP MATTERS TO YOU, CHECK BEFORE YOU GO. The entrance is below ground inside Brookfield Place at Yonge and Front, which confuses first-time visitors - follow the signs down from the concourse. Union station is a short walk through the PATH.
