A family-owned theme park at Santa Claus, Indiana, opened in 1946 as Santa Claus Land and generally considered the first themed amusement park in the world, predating Disneyland by nine years. It is divided into holiday-themed sections — Christmas, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Fourth of July — and its attached water park, Splashin' Safari, has been repeatedly named the best water park in the world by the industry's Golden Ticket Awards. Soft drinks and sunscreen are free throughout the park, which is a policy no comparable operator matches and which is the thing park enthusiasts nationally know it for.
