Hollyhock House

Historic House · Los Angeles, California

Frank Lloyd Wright's first Los Angeles building, designed between 1919 and 1921 for the oil heiress and theatre producer Aline Barnsdall. Wright called the style California Romanza and drew on Mayan temple forms, abstracting Barnsdall's favourite flower into a cast-stone frieze that runs round the whole house. In 2019 it became the first UNESCO World Heritage Site in Los Angeles.
