Hollywood Walk of Fame

Nightlife District · Los Angeles, California

The Hollywood Walk of Fame is a public sidewalk along Hollywood Boulevard and a few blocks of Vine Street in central Hollywood, set with thousands of brass stars in dark terrazzo, each naming a person or group honored for film, television, music, radio or live performance. The first stars went in around 1960 and new ones are added every year. Walking it is free and open at all hours, and the stretch around the TCL Chinese Theatre forecourt and the Dolby Theatre is the busiest. Expect crowds, costumed street characters who ask for tips, tour sellers, street vendors, litter and some seediness, especially east of the main tourist block and after dark. It suits first-time visitors who want to tick it off, film fans and families with patience; it is a quick, crowded stop, not a refined one. Confirm theatre tour prices, hours and any street closures for premieres before you go, and plan for a short stop.

Hollywood Boulevard, Los Angeles, California, 90028, United States

The sidewalk itself is public and open around the clock, every day, and costs nothing to walk. The businesses along it keep their own hours: shops and souvenir stores generally open late morning and stay open into the evening, the TCL Chinese Theatre and Dolby Theatre run their tours and screenings on posted schedules, and museums and attractions on the boulevard mostly close in the evening. Sections of Hollywood Boulevard close for hours or days around film premieres, award ceremonies and parades, with barriers and rerouted foot traffic. Confirm tour times and any closure notices on the day, and treat the street as much quieter and rougher after dark.
