Honolulu Museum of Art

Art Museum · Honolulu, Hawaii

An art museum in Honolulu founded in 1922 by Anna Rice Cooke and opened on 8 April 1927, the largest of its kind in the state. It holds one of the largest collections of Asian and Pan-Pacific art in the United States, grown to more than fifty-five thousand works. Its galleries are arranged around a series of open courtyards, which is the reason the building itself is worth the visit, and it also runs tours of Shangri La, Doris Duke's Islamic-art house on the coast.

South Beretania Street, Honolulu, Hawaii, United States

Open most of the week with at least one closed day, generally from late morning to mid-afternoon and with one later evening; check before travelling. Closed on major holidays. ⚠ THE SHANGRI LA TOUR IS A COMPLETELY SEPARATE THING - it departs from the museum, must be booked well in advance, and is not included with admission. Metered street parking and a small museum lot; both fill.
