Honor Heights Park
Muskogee City Park; Azalea Gardens Laid Out From 1909, Garden Of Lights Display · Muskogee, Oklahoma
A 132-acre city park on a hill above Muskogee, laid out in 1909 and planted so heavily with azaleas that the town built a festival around them: about 30,000 azaleas in more than 625 varieties bloom through April, and the Azalea Festival runs all month with a parade, a chili cook-off and crowds from three states. Beyond the azalea terraces are rose gardens, a Japanese-style garden, ponds with fishing, waterfalls, a wildflower meadow, an arboretum, picnic shelters, a playground and the Muskogee War Memorial. In November and December the park becomes the Garden of Lights, one of Oklahoma's largest drive-through Christmas light displays, with more than a million bulbs along the park roads. Entry is free all year except for the light display, which charges per car.
