Hontoon Island State Park
Florida State Park · DeLand, Florida
An island in the St. Johns River reachable only by the park's free passenger ferry or by private boat, with no road access at all. A Timucuan shell mound stands near the landing, a replica of an owl totem recovered here in 1955 marks the site, and the absence of cars makes it one of the quietest places within an hour of Orlando.
2309 River Ridge Road, DeLand, Florida, 32720, United States
Open 8:00 a.m. until sundown, 365 days a year. Access is by the free park ferry, which runs set hours and stops before sunset.
