Hot Springs State Park
State Park — Wyoming'S First · Thermopolis, Wyoming
Wyoming's first state park, in the town of Thermopolis, built around the Big Spring, which pours mineral water at around 127°F over colourful travertine terraces into the Bighorn River. The springs were part of the Wind River Reservation until 1896, when the Eastern Shoshone and Northern Arapaho ceded them to the United States on condition that some of the water stay free to the public — so the State Bath House still charges nothing for a soak. Boardwalks cross the Rainbow Terraces, a suspension footbridge spans the river, a state bison herd grazes the hills, and two commercial pools with slides sit inside the park.
