Houston Arboretum and Nature Center
Nature Preserve · Houston, Texas
A hundred and fifty-five acres of forest, wetland, pond and restored prairie on the western edge of Memorial Park, minutes from downtown Houston, with five miles of trail through it. Admission is free, always, and after Hurricane Ike destroyed much of its canopy the arboretum used the damage to rebuild itself as native prairie and savanna rather than replanting what had been there.
4501 Woodway Drive, Houston, Texas, 77024, United States
⚠ ADMISSION IS ALWAYS FREE — but PARKING IS $6, AND FREE ON THURSDAYS (members park free daily). That is the entire fee structure and it catches people out in both directions. 155 acres with five miles of trail on the edge of Memorial Park; confirm current opening hours at houstonarboretum.org.
