Hubbell Trading Post National Historic Site

National Historic Site · Ganado, Arizona

The oldest continuously operating trading post on the Navajo Nation, bought by John Lorenzo Hubbell in 1878 at Ganado and still trading today. Its stone store has the original wooden counters of the bullpen, a rug room piled with Navajo weavings, jewellery cases and everyday groceries, and Navajo artists still sell their work here. Rangers lead tours of the Hubbell family home, filled with art and rugs, and the barns and grounds show how a trading post worked. Entry to the grounds and store is free. It is still run as a working trading post by a non-profit partner of the Park Service, and many rugs for sale were woven by local artists.
