Hudson
Heritage District · Hudson, New York
⚠ A CITY FOUNDED BY NANTUCKET WHALERS IN 1783 — sixty families who sailed up the river after the Revolution looking for a port the British navy could not reach, and built a whaling town a hundred and twenty miles inland. It became a notorious vice town, then a derelict one, and is now a mile-long street of antique dealers, galleries and restaurants that draws New York City weekenders in numbers.
Warren Street at 7th Street, Hudson, New York, 12534, United States
An open city — free, no gate. ⚠ HUDSON RUNS ON A WEEKEND ECONOMY AND MANY DEALERS AND SHOPS CLOSE MIDWEEK — a Tuesday visit finds Warren Street largely shuttered. Go Friday to Sunday. Shops generally open late morning; restaurants run later and BOOK OUT AT WEEKENDS. Promenade Hill and the streets are free. ⚠ AMTRAK FROM PENN STATION IS ROUGHLY TWO HOURS AND THE STATION IS AT THE FOOT OF WARREN STREET — Hudson is one of very few upstate destinations that genuinely works without a car. ⚠ OLANA is across the river and is already seeded in Tier 2.
