Huis Ten Bosch

Huis Ten Bosch, A Large Dutch Themed Resort Park In Sasebo, Nagasaki, With Canals, Windmills And Reproductions Of Dutch Towns, Tulip And Light Shows, Hotels And Rides. A Family And Couples Destination In Kyushu. · Sasebo, Nagasaki

Huis Ten Bosch is a Dutch-themed resort park in Sasebo, Nagasaki, opened in 1992 and named for a Dutch royal palace whose name means House in the Woods. It copies a Dutch town on a huge site: canals, brick streets, windmills, a tall tower modelled on the Domtoren of Utrecht, flower fields that bloom with tulips in spring and other flowers through the year, and a mix of rides, mazes and museums. After dark it turns into one of the largest light shows in Japan, which is the main reason many people come in winter. There are hotels inside the park, and Huis Ten Bosch Station sits at the gate. It suits families, couples and flower or lights fans on a Kyushu trip. Allow a full day or a night. It is worth the detour for the flowers and the illuminations, but less so for a rush visit in midsummer heat or on a holiday peak, since the park is huge, walking-heavy and busy. Nagasaki city is a separate stop, and the last train home limits an evening stay, so plan the return before you commit to the night show.

The park opens in the morning and closes in the evening, with later closing in the season of the light shows and on peak days - confirm the calendar, since hours change by month and a few days a year are closed. Entry uses a passport, either for one day or for several days, and extra tickets may be sold for some attractions - confirm which are included. Huis Ten Bosch Station is at the park gate: about 1 hour 45 minutes by rapid train from Hakata and about 1 hour 30 from Nagasaki, with a change possible. IC cards work on the train. Book hotels early for winter lights and holiday weekends.
