Icelandic State Park
Subnational Park · Cavalier, North Dakota
Nine hundred acres on the north shore of Lake Renwick west of Cavalier, named for the Icelandic settlers who took up this corner of the Red River valley in the 1870s. It holds the Pioneer Heritage Center, a collection of restored settler buildings including the Akra Hall and the Gunlogson homestead, and the Gunlogson State Nature Preserve - two hundred acres of undisturbed floodplain woodland along the Tongue River that is one of the best remaining fragments of that habitat in the state.
