The Iga Ryu Ninja Museum, In Ueno Park In Iga, The Home Town Of Japan'S Best Known Ninja, With A House Of Hidden Doors And Trapdoors, A Collection Of Ninja Tools And Weapons And A Ninja Show. A Short, Fun Museum With A Castle Next Door. · Iga, Mie
The Iga-ryu Ninja Museum sits in Ueno Park in Iga Ueno, in western Mie, beside Iga Ueno Castle, and is a lighthearted, well-run introduction to the ninja of Iga, one of the two main ninja regions of Japan. The centrepiece is the Ninja Yashiki, a farmhouse built with trapdoors, hidden rooms, revolving walls and secret passages, which a guide demonstrates with plenty of showmanship. Commentary is mostly in Japanese, with English leaflets - confirm. A second building holds ninja tools, including shuriken and makibishi caltrops, and a ninja show is staged on set days - confirm times. It suits families, school-age children and curious adults, and the whole visit takes roughly one to two hours. It is worth the trip if you are already in the Nara and Kyoto area and like ninja history; it is not essential for a short Japan trip, and the castle next door and the town add a slow half day. Dress in a hired ninja costume if you wish - confirm.
