The islands, which include Ile Sainte-Marguerite and Ile Grosbois, are flat and green, with marshes, meadows, hardwood stands and about 20 km of paths for walking and cycling. Quebec's national park network manages the park (confirm), and most visitors arrive by bike, by the shuttle boat from Boucherville, or by the bridge-tunnel link that crosses the river (confirm which access is open on your day). Paddlers use the channels between islands, birders come for herons and migrating ducks, and families come for a car-free day beside the river with views of the Montreal skyline. Camping is available on one island in season (confirm). The park is quiet on weekdays, busy on sunny weekends, and cold and open to wind in winter.

The park is generally open daily all year, with the shuttle boat, visitor services, bike rental and campsites running on seasonal timetables, usually from late spring to early autumn, so confirm dates and times before you go. Gate hours for cars and the last shuttle crossing can limit your return, and winter access may be by foot, ski or snowshoe only. Services such as washrooms and cafe stands close outside the main season. Ice and water levels may close some paths or channels. Confirm the shuttle schedule, the day-use fee and any camping booking requirements on the day you travel, especially on holidays.
