Independence Seaport Museum

Specialty Museum · Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

The maritime museum on Penn's Landing, covering the Delaware River and Philadelphia's history as a port, and notable less for its galleries than for the two ships tied up outside them. USS Olympia was Admiral Dewey's flagship at Manila Bay in 1898 and is the OLDEST STEEL WARSHIP STILL AFLOAT ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD; USS Becuna is a Second World War submarine that went on war patrols in the Pacific. Both are boarded on the museum ticket, and the Olympia's survival has been in genuine financial doubt for years.

211 South Columbus Boulevard, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 19106, United States

Open most days, generally 10 AM to 5 PM, with reduced days in winter and closure on major holidays. One ticket covers the museum and both USS Olympia and USS Becuna. THE SHIPS CLOSE OCCASIONALLY for maintenance, weather or river conditions — check before travelling if they are the reason for the visit.
