Indian Echo Caverns

Show Cave · Hummelstown, Pennsylvania

A limestone cavern above Swatara Creek at Hummelstown, ten minutes from Hershey, opened commercially in 1929 and toured on a guided walk of about forty-five minutes. Its distinguishing story is a grim one: William Wilson, remembered locally as the Pennsylvania Hermit, lived in the cave for nineteen years from 1802 after failing to save his sister from execution in Chambersburg, and died in it. The tour passes the chamber he used.
