Indian Lake State Park

Michigan State Park · Manistique, Michigan

Indian Lake State Park is a Michigan state park on Indian Lake, a large inland lake near the town of Manistique in the Upper Peninsula. It offers a sandy swimming beach, a boat launch, fishing and campground areas, set in a flat, forested landscape not far from the Lake Michigan shore. The lake is big and fairly shallow, which makes the water warmer than nearby Lake Michigan, so swimming is more comfortable here than on the Great Lakes beaches along the coast. The park is a practical base for visiting Kitch-iti-kipi spring at Palms Book State Park, a short drive away. It is not a dramatic wilderness park, and its pleasures are quiet water, sunsets, fishing and camping. Black flies and mosquitoes can be heavy in early summer, and wind can raise waves on open water. A Michigan Recreation Passport is needed, and campsites should be reserved ahead, so confirm facilities, fees and dates before you go.

Michigan state parks are generally open daily from morning until late evening, and Indian Lake is normally open for day use and camping across a long season, with the busiest period from late June to early September. Check the Michigan DNR listing for current hours, campground open dates and any building closures. Winters in the Upper Peninsula are long and snowy, so services are limited and roads or campgrounds can close with heavy snow. A Recreation Passport is needed for vehicles, and camping is reserved in advance. Confirm all dates and hours before you drive here.
