A white wooden dome in the desert near Joshua Tree, built from 1954 by George Van Tassel, who said the design was dictated to him by visitors from Venus and intended it as a rejuvenation machine. It contains no metal fasteners, it has extraordinary acoustics, and people now book weeks ahead to lie on the floor while quartz bowls are played at them.
