International Rose Test Garden
Botanical Garden · Portland, Oregon
The oldest continuously operating public rose test garden in the United States, on a terraced hillside in Washington Park with over ten thousand rose bushes of roughly six hundred and fifty varieties. New cultivars are sent here from around the world and formally evaluated on disease resistance, bloom formation, colour and fragrance - it is a working trial ground that happens to be free and open, and it is the reason Portland is called the City of Roses.
Southwest Rose Garden Way, Portland, Oregon, 97210, United States
Open daily during daylight hours and FREE. ⚠ THE ROSES ARE THE HOURS: they bloom from April through October with the peak in June, and outside that window this is a pleasant terraced park with pruned bushes and a view. The gift shop is seasonal. Parking in Washington Park is paid and enforced, and the garden itself charges nothing.
